LM-Mogadishu, 17th January 2024- The Association of Somali Universities-ASU has organized a special event to bid farewell to the outgoing Directorate of Higher Education Dr. Ismail Yusuf Osman, and welcome the new Directorate of Higher Education of Somalia Dr. Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamud, marking an important transition in the leadership of the educational institution. The event, held at Afrik Hotel was attended by esteemed MPs, Chancellors, guests, Administrators, University faculty members, religious leaders, scholars, Teachers, and other stakeholders.

The farewell ceremony commenced with a heartfelt tribute to the outgoing director, Mr. Ismail who dedicated his contribution to the Directorate of Higher Education. During his tenure, Mr. Ismail made significant contributions to the institution’s growth and development, fostering an environment of academic excellence, innovation, and collaboration. Attendees acknowledged his leadership and expressed gratitude for his tireless efforts in advancing higher education in the country.

“The objective of this farewell event is to honor and appreciate the outgoing director’s dedicated service and achievements, while also providing a warm welcome to the new director, we are grateful to you for the huge participation.” Said Dr. Omar Julari, Director of the Association of Somali Universities-ASU who opened the event with remarks.

“The objective of the event we are holding tonight is to bless and bid farewell to the outgoing Directorate of Higher Education, who was the cornerstone to the foundation of the Association of Somali Universities and did a lot of work with us. He was also present at the election of Association of Somali Universities Leaders” said Prof. Mohamed Mohamud Hassan (Dr. Bidey), the chairman of ASU.

“We are cordially welcoming to the new Directorate of Higher Education Dr. Mohamed Abdullahi whom we are expecting to fill the role of director Ismail.” He added.

“We congratulate to both for the work you did and the work you are expected to do. I also congratulate all education families who are expressing commitment, collaboration confidence, and respect. This is when the communities are making progress in education.

“Education is not where it is left. It is where a life exists and enables the person to be active always. We are grateful to you for the event you organized” said, Hassan Mohamed, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education.

“I cannot express my gratitude to you. I would like you to work with Mohamed Abdullahi, the new director how you worked with me. I would urge the new director to have close collaboration with these universities. Universities don’t need a budget. They have their own, they just need to have governmental leadership.” Said Dr. Ismail Yusuf Osman, outgoing director.

“I am very delighted that the educational family where I came is here. I am grateful to you for organizing the event. All the gratitude goes to the Association of Somali Universities who did this event and enabled these people to come together and see each other.

In recognition of his achievements and commitment, Dr. Ismail was presented with a certificate of appreciation symbolizing his lasting impact on the institution. Several speakers, including faculty members and colleagues, took the stage to share their experiences and memories, highlighting Ismail’s accomplishments and expressing their best wishes for his future endeavors.

The event then transitioned to a warm welcome for the new director, Dr. Mohamed Abdullah who brings a wealth of experience and fresh perspectives to the Directorate of Higher Education. Dr. Mohamed’s appointment was met with enthusiasm and optimism as attendees expressed their confidence in his leadership abilities and vision for the institution’s future.
