By LM-Garowe, 4 January 2024-Mr. Abdirizam Ahmed Said has been elected as the new speaker of Puntland’s Parliament after an election held in Garowe. In the first round of the election, Abdirizak received 37 votes, while the former chairman of the council, Abdirishid Yusuf Jibril, received the lowest number of 8 votes.
About four MPs contested for the chairmanship of the House of Representatives of Puntland, namely MP Mohamed Farah Mohamed Gabyow who got 10 votes, and MP Mursal Mohamud Abdi who got 10 votes, but the three contestants gave up going to the second round.
The acting chairman of the House of Representatives of Puntland MP Hassan Abdalla Hassan has announced that Abdirizak Ahmed Saed Farah has won the leadership of the House of Representatives of Puntland until 2029.
MP Mohamed Barri Shire also won the 1st Deputy Speaker of the Puntland House of Representatives. This election started this morning and the security of the roads leading to the election of the Speaker and the Deputy of the Parliament has been tightened. These members are replacing the former Puntland Regional Parliament Committee and this will put an end to many disputes in the Puntland’s Parliament election process.
