Mogadishu, 1 January 2024-Former President of the Federal Republic of Somalia H.E Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo strongly condemns the MoU signed by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Muse Bihi Abdi, the outgoing president of Somaliland. He strongly criticized the so-called MoU which violates the independence of Somalia’s territory. He started his speech as follows.
“The agreement of Ethiopia’s greed for land and sea in the Federal Republic of Somalia has shown the strong feelings of the Somali people, and it is worth not underestimating the danger that will arise if the independence and unity of our country are violated”.
“This agreement violates the laws of the country and the international and African Union regulations, and is harmful to the unity and stability of the countries in the region, so we declare that everyone involved will go down in history and take responsibility for the consequences. may result.”
“We call on the Ethiopian government to refrain from this greed that undermines the agreements of social integration and cooperation at the regional level, which was the foundation for the protection of the independence and sovereignty of the peoples of the region, by the specific rules of each country and international laws.” Mr. Farjaamo said in a Facebook post.
“I call on the members of the two Houses of the Federal Parliament of Somalia to stand fast in the performance of their national duties regarding the violation of the independence and sovereignty of our country, reminding of the victory we achieved in the case of the Navy case between us and Kenya which was the basis of the resolution issued by the 8th Parliament.”
The President of the Republic, Mr. Hassan Sheikh who is responsible for protecting the territorial, maritime, and national unity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, and the fateful decisions and national actions worthy of our future generations will be respected.
“I call on the Somali people, the public, and the authorities to unite for this serious issue, putting aside our differences and disagreements. Let’s unite to protect our sea, our land, and our nation.” He noted.
