Cario (LM) In a significant diplomatic development, the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, held a fruitful meeting with the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. The meeting, which took place in Cario aimed to strengthen bilateral relations and explore avenues of cooperation between the two nations.
During the meeting, President H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and his Egyptian counterpart engaged in constructive discussions on various topics of mutual interest. Both leaders expressed their commitment to enhancing diplomatic ties and promoting regional stability in the Horn of Africa.
The discussions primarily focused on key areas of cooperation, including trade, security, infrastructure development, and cultural exchanges and support to Somalia in crisis with Ethiopia. Both leaders acknowledged the potential for increased economic collaboration and explored opportunities for trade and investment between Somalia and Egypt.
Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Cairo on Saturday on a two-day official visit, at the invitation of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
The visit comes at a time of heightened tensions between Somalia and Ethiopia, which has signed a controversial memorandum of understanding with the breakaway region of Somaliland. Somalia considers Somaliland to be part of its territory.
Additionally, the leaders underscored the significance of cooperation in the field of security. They emphasized the need for joint efforts to combat terrorism, piracy, and other transnational threats in the region. Discussions revolved around sharing intelligence, coordinating security operations, and strengthening border security measures to safeguard both nations from common security challenges.
