Somali Parliament Engages in Discussions on Constitutional Review Process

Mogadishu (LM) The Somali Parliament on Monday convened to engage in crucial discussions regarding the completion of the country’s constitution, aiming to establish a comprehensive framework that will enhance stability, good governance, and democratic principles. Lawmakers from various political parties and backgrounds participated in the dialogue, reflecting the collective effort to shape the future of Somalia’s constitutional landscape.

The parliamentary session, held at the Parliament compound focused on addressing the remaining aspects of the constitution and reaching a consensus on unresolved issues. Lawmakers deliberated on critical topics, such as the structure of the government, power-sharing arrangements, human rights protections, and the distribution of resources.

The Lawmakers are committed to deliberating on Finalizing the Constitution to Foster Stability and Democratic Governance and most of the MPs called extra hours of hour to discuss more about the constitution.

The Somali Parliament’s commitment to a transparent and participatory process was evident, as lawmakers engaged in constructive debates and exchanged views on various constitutional provisions. The discussions highlighted the complexity of the task at hand and the necessity of accommodating diverse perspectives to reach a consensus that reflects the aspirations of the Somali people.

Political Opposition leaders including former presidents and MPs opposed the review process while there was no common consensus and inclusive participation.
