Demonstrators Rally in Mogadishu in Support of Constitution Revision

Mogadishu, (LM) Thousands of citizens gathered in Mogadishu today to participate in a peaceful demonstration advocating for the revision of the Somali constitution. The event, organized by Banadir Regional Administration-BRA aimed to highlight the importance of updating the constitution to meet the evolving needs and aspirations of the Somali people.

Carrying placards and banners with messages calling for constitutional reform, the demonstrators marched through the streets of Mogadishu, creating a vibrant atmosphere filled with unity and determination. Men, women, and youth from various sectors of society came together, expressing their shared belief in the significance of a revised constitution as a cornerstone for a prosperous and inclusive Somalia.

The rally took place Daljirka-Dahson building, where prominent activists, Officials from BRA, District commissioners, MPs, Ministers people from 17 districts of Banadir, and community leaders addressed the enthusiastic crowd. They emphasized the urgent need for constitutional amendments that address critical issues such as governance, human rights, justice, and the distribution of power.

“Somalia is represented in the constitution by both Houses of Parliament, the decision belongs to them, and members who disagree with the ongoing work should bring their views to the parliamentary meetings.” BRA Governor, Mr. Madale.

“Let everyone know that people who oppose the completion of the constitution are standing in the way of your rights. It must be overcome and the misdirection of groups that oppose the government of this country is not over.” Says Abdirahman Yusuf Al-adala, the deputy information minister.

The demonstration received support from women groups who recognized the importance of a revised constitution in building a stable and prosperous Somalia. Representatives from these groups were present at the rally, reaffirming their commitment to supporting the constitutional reform process.

“The completion of the constitution will give rights to the underrepresented people and the status of the capital of Mogadishu.” Said, Mss Jawahir Barqab, BRA Women Grop Leader.

The event concluded with a collective call to action, urging the Federal Parliament and other relevant institutions to prioritize the constitution revision process. Demonstrators expressed their determination to continue advocating for change until their voices are heard and meaningful reforms are implemented.
