LM-Bur’o, 06 January 2024- Bur’o residents made protests regarding a sea access deal signed by Ethiopia and Somaliland outgoing president Mr. Muse Behi who faced criticism and challenges over signing ‘the null and avoid’ MoU in Addis-Ababa.
Bur’o is a city located in the Togdheer region of Somaliland, an autonomous region in northern Somalia. The residents of Bur’o, like many other cities and towns in Somaliland, expressed their spirits on how they are against the MoU signed in Addis-Ababa.
“Our sea is not for sale. Muse cannot give our sea to any Ethioipia and Muse told them a lie. We don’t allow our sea to be aspired. We call Ethiopia to distinguish what it is doing. We warn Muse to stop the dreams he is dreaming,” said one of the Bur’o protestors.
“This sea access deal undermines our sovereignty and threatens our territorial integrity. We cannot compromise our rights and control over our waters.”
“The greed of Ethiopia will lead to another war like 77 one. We warn Ethiopia, it should respect the neighborhood.”
“We have a rich maritime heritage and history that should be protected. This sea access deal risks erasing our cultural identity and connection to the sea. We will fight and defend our integrity”
“This deal could have negative environmental impacts, endangering marine life and ecosystems. We must prioritize the protection and sustainability of our coastal resources.”
The sea deal access signed in Addis-Abab has been denounced by different countries and called Ethiopia to respect the territorial integrity of Somalia.
