China donates one million to Somalia to support families affected by Elnin Floods

The Chairman of the Somali National Disaster Management Authority of SoDMA, Mr. Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle, has today received a sum of 1,000,000 dollars from the Chinese Government, which they are participating in to provide relief to the people who have suffered severe conditions caused by Elnin floods.

The Chinese government intends to use this money to transport the food it will soon bring to the country to reach the affected families by floods in Somalia.

The donation was handed over the Chairman of the National Disaster Management Agency b the Chinese Ambassador to Somalia Mr. HE Fei Shengchao.

China has a history of providing assistance to various countries in Africa including Somalia, in areas such as infrastructure development, humanitarian aid, and economic cooperation. Chinese aid to Somalia could take different forms, including financial aid, grants, or in-kind donations, and it supported Somalia in different circumstances and the two nations’ ties enhancing in the past years.

China and Somalia have maintained diplomatic relations since December 1960, shortly after Somalia gained independence. Over the years, the relationship between the two countries has evolved and expanded in various areas, including political, economic, and security cooperation.  China and Somalia have engaged in high-level visits and exchanges, strengthening political ties. China has expressed support for Somalia’s political stability, territorial integrity, and national reconciliation, and Somalia has reiterated its commitment to the One China policy.
