Historic Trilateral Talks Conclude in Ankara:  Somalia, and Ethiopia Seek New Beginnings

Ankara (LM) The trilateral talks between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed have concluded in Ankara, marking a pivotal moment for regional diplomacy in the Horn of Africa.

In a meeting that lasted several hours, the leaders reached a consensus reflected in a joint statement, declaring that previous disputes, including contentious agreements, are now resolved and belong to the past. The parties emphasized their commitment to starting anew, grounded in mutual respect and the preservation of the nationalism, independence, unity, and territorial integrity of both Somalia and Ethiopia.

The press release underlined that any future agreements must be approved by the Federal Government of Somalia, ensuring that Somalia’s sovereignty is respected in all negotiations. Additionally, discussions covered maritime trade issues, with both nations agreeing to follow a legal framework that benefits their economies while adhering to international law.

The Somali government expressed deep gratitude to President Erdogan and the Turkish people for hosting the talks and for their dedicated efforts over the past eight months in addressing the regional crisis.
