President Hassan Sheik Answered Questions from Somali Citizens in Inclusive Civic Debate

Mogadishu, December 28, 2023; The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, participated in an inclusive civic debate in which he was directly asked by the Somali people their questions related to the war to free the country from terrorism, the stabilization plan, the arms embargo, the equipping and upgrading of the armed forces. For example, the withdrawal of ATMIS and Somalia’s debt relief were completed.

The war against terrorism: The president presented the fruits of the first phase of the ongoing operation to liberate the country from Al-Shabaab terrorists, and indicated that the government is preparing special forces for the security and defense of the areas to be liberated.

“On the 10th month, regular operations have been going on until now. During this period, many areas have been liberated. The Somali people today stand together for the liberation of the country. Many tribes have joined forces to eradicate terrorism.”

ATMIS Security and Exit: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud noted the historic role played by AMISOM in the peace and governance of Somalia and expressed how happy he is that the Somali Forces have reached a stage where they can secure the security of Presidents, government agencies, and the leadership of the country.

“I have full confidence that my security will be protected by the sons of Somalia, and I am privileged and fortunate to be the first Somali President whose security is fully protected by the Somali National Army, since the collapse of the country.”

Debt relief and economic growth: President Hassan Sheikh presented the expected results of debt relief in our country, and he noted that this year 2023 the economy has grown by 14%, and the government aims to achieve a growth of 22% in the new year, which is equal to Poverty reduction has been reduced to 54% from 69%.

“The development of a country must have a long-term vision. As we said, this year and the next year we cannot overcome the challenges that exist, and that is why we brought the vision of 2060. Thirty-seven years from now, Somalia will look like we have reached its decision today.

Completion of the Constitution;

The president who responded to the questions on the constitution said, “The draft of the constitution has met with many delays, and it has been submitted to different parliaments and the time has run out for them to work on it. We are determined that this term of office will not be exceeded, and its completion is based on the wishes of the Somali people. My style is more important than the wishes of the majority of the Somali community.”

Also, the President of the Republic answered questions from around the world about the rule of law, cooperation between federal and state government agencies, reconciliation, and international relations.
