Somali Forces Unite for Major Offensive Against Al-Shabaab in Hiiraan

Ali Jeyte Osman, Somalia’s Special Envoy for Community Defense Forces, has called for a united front among government troops and local militias to launch a significant offensive against Al-Shabaab militants in the Hiiraan region. Speaking to hundreds of Somali National Army (SNA) soldiers and members of the grassroots Macawisley militia, Jeyte emphasized the importance of this operation for restoring peace and stability.

“We must take advantage of this moment,” Jeyte stated, asserting that any area targeted will be treated as an Al-Shabaab stronghold. He acknowledged the hardships faced by the community, but encouraged unity, saying, “The hardships we endure now will lead to a brighter future. Tribal wars destroy us, but this is a war for justice and unity. Let us march forward together.”

Having previously served as the governor of Hiiraan, Jeyte urged civilians living in Al-Shabaab-controlled areas to evacuate, stressing the need to minimize harm to innocent lives during the forthcoming offensive. he added.

“This is a war we must fight with resolve and purpose. Let us forgive one another and focus on liberating our communities,”

The planned offensive aligns with efforts from Somali military leaders, including the heads of the intelligence service and land forces, who are finalizing preparations for coordinated strikes aimed at eradicating Al-Shabaab’s influence in Hiiraan—a region long plagued by violence and instability.

Hiiraan has become the focal point of intensified military operations, with government forces and local militias increasingly collaborating to reclaim territory. The Macawisley militia, made up of local volunteers, has been instrumental in recent successes against the militants, often fighting alongside the SNA.

As the offensive approaches, the call for solidarity and unity resonates, highlighting a collective determination to restore peace in a region that has suffered under the grip of Al-Shabaab for years.
