The former Prime Minister of Somalia criticized a so-called MoU signed in Addis-Ababa

Mogadishu, 1 January 2024- Former Prime Minister of Somalia H.E Hassan Ali Kheire has strongly condemned the MoU signed in Addis Ababa by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and the outgoing president of Somaliland Muse Bihi Abdi who was on a State Visit on Sunday.

“I strongly condemn the agreement reached in Addis Ababa by the Prime Minister of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed and the outgoing President of Somaliland Muse Bihi Abdi, which is a great violation of Somali Nationalism”. Said Mr. Kheire in a Facebook post.

“Ethiopia and Somalia are two neighboring countries that deserve mutual respect and cooperation based on respect for each country’s nationalism, and it is unacceptable that Addis Ababa is taking part in Somalia’s water today”. He added.

“If we are leaders and people, we must unite, oppose and prevent this step where Ethiopia is trying to seize part of our water, and also to cancel the principles established by the African Union, especially Article 4, clause B.

“We will never accept this kind of action that casts doubt on our existence, and I call on the Ethiopian Government to withdraw from this and maintain peace, stability, and neighborliness.”

“I call to the leaders of the Federal Government of Somalia that they should quickly give a suitable response to this matter, and be ready for any united response that may be required. The heads of the federal government of Somalia are responsible for protecting the unity, land, and sea of ​​Somalia.”
