LM-Mogadishu-The FPENS education umbrella marked its 25th anniversary with an event attended by Somalia’s Prime Minister, Mr. Hamsa Abdi Barre, who praised its achievements in the education sector.

Mr. Barre said that the government of Somalia recognizes the importance of education for the country’s development, and that FPENS has been a vital ally in this mission. He said that FPENS has saved thousands of Somali children from ignorance, and has improved their culture and life.

He also called on other organizations that work in education in the country to work together with the government and FPENS to increase the quality of education in the country.

FPENS is a local, community-based education umbrella organization that was established by Somali scholars in Mogadishu more than 20 years ago, following the collapse of the central government. It comprises 145 associate members representing local NGOs that share its goal of restoring and rebuilding Somalia’s education sector.
